In 2012 I was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps after serving for 6 years including a deployment to Iraq in 2008-09. At that time I was an extremely motivated albeit unfocused young man, enter triathlon. I took up running as a way to stay in shape, and found that it was also a great way to clear my head and direct all that unfocused energy. The competitive and challenging aspect of triathlons was even more appealing as a means of pushing myself and testing my limits. Soon after I started riding an old mountain bike I found in grandfather’s basement, got a pool membership at the local YMCA, and the rest is history.
Over a decade of racing expereience at the highest levels of amateur racing has taught me that hard work and consistent training trumps all in endurance sports. I work with performane oriented athletes who truly believe that there is no limit to their potential!
Coaching philosophy
Pass on knowledge that I have gained through years of experience to help prevent new athletes from making the typical rookie mistakes. I believe in using sports as a way to overcome transitional periods in a person’s life. I believe that all endurance sports are true longevity sports that can be done at all levels, no matter the age of the athlete. It is my goal to help all my athletes attain the same love for the sport of triathlon that I feel everyday while training and competing. No cookie cutter plans, honest feedback only with performance based coaching.
My coaching strategies consist primarily of consistent aerobic work periodized with rest and recovery to achieve maximum benefits. Consistency is king in endurance sports. There is no one single session that is going to change everything, its simple hard work day in and day out that will yield that results you’re looking to see!

As a student athlete in track and field and cross country and then distance runner in my early twenties, I was finding myself often injured or burnt out. I turned to indoor cycling and triathlon to cross train and fell in love. I became a spin instructor in 2016 but was still not brave enough to face the Philly streets on a road bike. Losing my father in a cycling accident at 13, I am particularly sensitive to the concerns of safety on the roads. Little by little I got more confident, and my triathlon career took off.
Coaching philosophy
In my life, progress has built in inches. The day to day work might not seem ground breaking but the cumulative effect of years of training and consistency show in strength, confidence, and grit. Though there is no greater avenue to catharsis and presence than in pushing your body to its limit, endurance sports are a physical pursuit first and foremost. Build the habits, do the work, love the pain. The benefits of triathlon in my life have been varied and immeasurable, and it is my goal to pass that on to everyone involved in the sport and help them love it as much as I do.

In 2016, I was a 5’9’, 220 lb overweight, overworked, out of shape, insecure, and somewhat depressed 30-something husband and father of 4 young boys. My family was great and I love them dearly, but daily life often felt like a grind full of responsibility and obligation with little excitement or adventure. I felt like I was dying a little each day and needed more. I also knew I needed to become a healthier and happier guy for my own sake, as well as for the sake of my family.
But where do I find the motivation to move in the right direction?
Well, about a decade earlier, I had participated in a sprint triathlon…and it felt like it was one of the hardest things I had done athletically in my life, but it was a great experience and accomplishment. I decided that registering for another sprint triathlon could be the push I needed to start a training program and stick with it. So in July 2016, I recruiting my buddy, Brent (a runner/cyclist), to do the Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon with me, and help hold me accountable to the training needed leading up to it. The sprint tri was in mid-Sept, so I had about 3 months to get myself in shape to complete the race in my board shorts and on my mountain bike with skinny tires…and that was the goal…completion.
Starting in July was not the most fun time to begin training and many workouts (especially runs) were really hot, hard, and pretty darn miserable. After one brutal afternoon run, I came down my driveway and told my wife that “I hate this…I will never like running.” But I stuck with the training while also significantly changing my diet, and the weight loss and fitness gains were significant. By mid Sept, I was down to about 190 lbs (-30) and had gone from running 12 min/mi down to around 10 min/mi. The sprint tri was a success and that just started my journey.
From there, I signed up for any local 5k’s, 10k’s, and trail races I could find, graduated up to Olympic distance tris, next on to 70.3, and eventually a full Ironman in 2019. My journey towards a healthier lifestyle and better fitness has brought with it a passion to help and encourage others to realize that they are possible of the same change…it just takes some dedication, discipline, and encouragement from the right group of people surrounding you.
Along the way, I met Ben, we became friends who share a love of endurance sports, and Mission Multisport was birthed in 2019 after about a year of discussions, incubation, and planning. The MMS brand/club is a labor of love that we hope is infectious and encourages others to achieve better fitness, find friendships, and find adventure.
